A woman was gangraped on a trawler near a remote island in Charfesson upazila, Bhola, on Saturday night.
The coast guard rescued the woman and arrested five people.
A case was filed against the five accused of rape and identified as: Yusuf Hasan Sardar, 21, Sohel Rana Sikdar, 20, Wasel Ahmed Sikdar, 22, Morshed Hawlader, 35, and Ripon Fakir, 20.
Dakshin Char Aicha police station OC, Milon Kumar Ghosh, said: “A coast guard patrol team got suspicious seeing a trawler anchored near a coconut garden in Kukrimukri union. Getting closer, they found the woman bound and screaming for help.”
According to the case statement, the woman was a friend of Sohel Rana Sikdar, with whom she often talked on the phone. On Saturday, the woman went to meet Sohel, who then abducted her and raped her with the four others.
Schoolgirl raped in Sirajganj
A schoolgirl was raped in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj, reportedly by her neighbor, whose proposal of a romantic relationship was not accepted by the girl.
The girl, a secondary school student, is currently under treatment at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj. Doctors say she was severely injured from the rape incident on Thursday.
Dr Ranjan Kumar Dutt, director of the hospital, said: “The girl’s parents should soon lodge a case and send her for further tests while the evidence of rape is intact.”
Tarash police station OC Mahbubur Rahman said: “We have asked the girl’s parents to file a case but there was no response."
The girl’s parents said they were busy with their daughter’s treatment and they will file a case soon.
Father-in-law arrested for rape in Bogra
Police arrested a man on Saturday, accused in a case filed for raping his 19 year old daughter-in-law for six months in Dupchanchia upazila, Bogra.
The accused, Abdul Momin, 40, was produced in court and sent to jail yesterday, confirmed Dupchanchia police station Sub-Inspector Shafiqur Rahman.
According to the case statement, the woman was threatened and raped numerous times by Momin in the course of six months, when her husband was not home.
