Gas leakage stop, classes to start at B’baria school

A gas pocket that was breached during the installation of a tube well at Kasba Sher E Bangla High School premise in Brahmanbaria stopped leaking on Saturday.

Azadur Rahman, assistant teacher of the school said that academic activities will resume today if the situation remains normal.

Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration (Bapex) General Manager Alamgir Hossain told locals not to panic as emission of gas and sand will completely stop shortly.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, also the local lawmaker visited the scene and ordered the Bapex officials to examine the area. 

The gas began to leak on Wednesday from the tube-well pit along with sand and water, causing the school’s shahid minar, boundary wall and several trees in the vicinity to collapse.

Following the incident, upazila administration announced closure of the school as a safety measure amid growing panic among locals.
