An Indian male peacock was rescued in Panchagarh Sadar on Thursday.
Md Ruhul Amin of Panchagarh Forest Department said: “We will send the peacock to Ramsagar Jatiya Udyan, a wildlife sanctuary in Dinajpur, for it to be displayed."
Contacted Zohra Mila, wildlife and biodiversity conservation officer of the Forest Department, said: “This is an Indian Peafowl, which is the national bird of India. It likely flew in from India or escaped from an exotic animal smuggler.”
Four decades ago peacocks used to roam in various parts of Mymensingh’s Gazipur-Bhawal areas. But due to the deforestation, lack of food, and various adverse conditions, the bird disappeared from the country.
