Operation Subtle Split ends in Jhenidah

The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and Jhenaidah police have called an end to “Operation Subtle Split” at a suspected militant den in Lebutola village under Sadar upazila. Deputy Inspector General Didar Ahmmed said at a press briefing that the operation ended around 1:15pm Monday. Eight bombs, a pistol and three rounds of bullets were found in the suspected hideout. The bombs were defused by the Bomb Disposal Unit. The law enforcers also recovered some electronic devices from the den that could be used in making powerful bombs, the DIG said. Two people were detained by the law enforcers during the raid on Sunday. The detainees are late Sharafat Hossain’s two sons Shamim,22, and Hasan, 35. One Haider Ali of the village said late Sharafat Hossain had started living in the area 20 years ago and he died 10 years ago. According to Haider Ali, Sharafat’s elder son Hasan is a mason and younger son Shamim is a student of Jhenidah Polytechnic Institute. “Both the brothers are pious. We never saw them chatting with others in the area,” he added. Another villager Jasim Uddin said: “We came to know that the duo are involved in militancy after police raided their house on Sunday. We never noticed anything suspicious in their activities.” Two militants were killed in raid at another suspected militant hideout in Bojrapur village on Sunday.
