Police on Monday arrested four persons on charges of abducting and raping four minor girls in Ghatail upazila in the district. The individuals’ identities were not revealed in the interest investigation, reports our correspondent.
The minors, all of them ninth graders of a local school, went to visit the Satkuabaid forest area with two of their male friends on Sunday. During the visit, some miscreants followed them and kept them hostage at knifepoint.
After the abduction the assailants raped three girls and sexually harassed another after failing to secure ransom from the girls’ respective families, the case statement says.
According to police, the victims were left in the forest after the rape; they then took shelter at a house belonging to a relative of one of the girls. The father of one of the victims later lodged a case with Ghatail police station on Monday, accusing five to six people of the crime.
Police took the minors to the Tangail General Hospital for check-ups after the court recorded their testimonies, said Ghatail police OC Maksudul Alam.
Sanjit Kumar Roy, Superintendent of Police in the district, said: "Police arrested two people in this regard and are conducting drives to arrest the rest."
"We will reveal the case details after investigation," he added.
