Marine Drive Ultra Marathon 2020 starts Friday

The first ever Marine Drive Ultra-Marathon will begin in Bangladesh’s coastal city Cox’s Bazar at 6am on Friday.

Travellers of Bangladesh and Escapade have jointly organized the event in association with the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Bangladesh Tourism Board and Cox’s Bazar Zila Parishad.

The 24 hour event will begin at 6am on Friday and end at 6 am on Saturday. It is aimed at raising public awareness about littering and the need for healthy living, says  a press release.

Once a year, if people are fortunate enough, they go to some place they have never been to before. People love to explore but they seldom think about the consequences of their actions - eyes locked to the marvels of the universe they drop that empty bag of chips or the plastic water bottle almost anywhere.

This event means to draw attention to coastal pollution and other forms of behaviour in order for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved.

120 selected participants will be taking part in the two-day long event with the slogan ‘Travel Responsibly.’

Marathon runners will be participating in three different categories: 50 km, 100km and 161km (100miles). Runners will set out at 6 am on January 17th from Inani Beach for Teknaf and back.

Volunteers, cyclists, Cox’s Bazaar police, and Tourist police will assist the participants with drinks, snacks and medical assistance whenever necessary.

The event, one of the most challenging marathons, will show how a grassroots level initiative can bring people together for a greater cause.
