Student commits suicide after failing in SSC exam

A student has reportedly committed suicide after failing in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination in Shariatpur. Deceased Shamim, 16, appeared in this year’s SSC examination from Damudya Muslim High School. The results of this SSC and its equivalent examinations were published across Bangladesh on Thursday. Shamim’s father Shahid Khan said: “Shamim failed in mathematics and accounting. He did not talk to anyone when he returned from school after seeing his results around 4pm. “Suddenly, we heard him scream. When he rushed to his room we saw that he had drunk poison.” He said Shamim was declared dead when taken to Damudya Upazila Health Complex. Damudya Muslim High School’s Assistant Teacher Ratan Cheyal said: “Shamim was an average student but he was a very well mannered. “We still cannot believe that he took such an extreme step.” Damudya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahabubur Rahman: “We have sent police to the hospital.”
