Teenager brutally tortured in Sunamganj over theft allegation

A 17-year-old boy was brutally tortured by some people with political influence on allegation of stealing a mobile phone at Dharon Bazar of Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj.

He is now undergoing treatment at Chhatak Upazila Health Complex, reports UNB.

The incident came to light on Monday night, five days after the incident, which took place at a field at Dharon Bazar in the upazila on Thursday.

The victim’s family said the boy used to work at the tea shop of one Zillu Mia of Pirpur village three to four years back. On Tuesday, a mobile phone was stolen from the shop.

Following the directives of Zillu Mia, his supporters took the boy to a field at Dharan Bazar on Thursday night where they beat him after tying his hands and legs. They also clogged his mouth with a piece of cloth.

They also broke the boy’s legs. Failing to bear the inhuman torture, the boy fell unconscious.

Later, he was taken to the Upazila Health Complex.

Mostafa Kamal, Chhatak police station OC, said no complaint was lodged in this connection and legal action will be taken after a written complaint is filed.
