Indian Coast Guard ships arrive in Mongla port

Two Indian ships arrived at Mongla port on Monday on a four-day visit as part of ongoing bilateral exchanges between the Coast Guards of the two countries.

Over the next three days personnel from both Coast Guards will interact closely to learn of each other’s best practices, and undertake joint training in areas of mutual interest like pollution response, said a press release issued by the Indian High Commission to Dhaka.

“This interaction will facilitate greater synergy between the two forces, to enhance safety at sea for mariners from both the countries,” it said.

ICGS Sujay is a 105m offshore patrol vessel commissioned into the Indian Coast Guard on December 27, 2017, and is primarily designed for round the clock all weather surveillance of maritime zones of India and is capable of integrated helicopter operations, said the press release.

ICGS Sarojini Naidu is a 50m long fast patrol craft commissioned on 11 Nov, 2002, and the first to have a water jet propulsion system, said the press release, adding that the ship is designed for patrolling, search and rescue, anti-smuggling, anti-terrorist operations, and the protection of fishermen and endangered marine species.

The joint exercise is in accordance with the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two forces in 2015.
