The Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) has begun its third phase of drilling to determine the availability, quantity, and quality of iron ore in Hili, Dinajpur.
Dinajpur 6 MP Shibly Sadik inaugurated the third phase of drilling in Bhatara village of Alihat union on Wednesday.
MP Shibly said: "We found coal in this area and now we are expecting to find enough iron ore to mine."
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will brief everyone on the findings when the survey finishes, MP Shibly added.
"We hope that iron and other precious metals we find here will contribute to building a better future for Bangladesh," he said.
GSB Director General Nizam Uddin, Director (Operation) Moin Uddin Ahmed, Hakimpur upazila Chairman Harun-ur-Rashid, UNO Abdur Rafiul Alam, Vice Chairman Shahinur Reza, Hakimpur municipality Mayor Zamil Hossain, and Birampur municipality Mayor Liakat Ali, among others, were present at the program.
GSB has been carrying out drilling operations in the area since the discovery of iron ore in Murshidpur of Hakimpur upazila back in 2013.
On April 19 last year, the second phase of the drilling campaign began. GSB located the closest iron ore mine from the surface in Ishobpur village of Alihat union during the second phase of drilling.
