Two women gang-raped in Moulvibazar, suspects held

Two women were abducted and gang-raped in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar on Friday night.

Police apprehended seven suspects soon after the incident was reported, but withheld their identities until further investigation. 

Our correspondent, while talking to these two women at the Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, learned how the regrettable incident unfolded that night. 

The women—sister-in-laws—were headed for Munshibazar on a hired CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Friday night. The driver suddenly took a different route than usual, and had two more people boarded near Kalenga area. Soon, another CNG-run auto-rickshaw ambushed their vehicle, and around seven men abducted them to an isolated place in Dewrachhara tea garden and gang-raped them. 

Kamalganj police station OC Md Arifur Rahman said: "Seven rape suspects have been detained in connection to the incident. Three CNGs have also been seized. The accused are being interrogated for further investigation." 

Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Ratnadip Biswas said: “After running tests on these two women, the primary reports have revealed signs of rape.” 

 Two rape suspects held in Dinajpur

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB 13) on Friday detained two men, prime accused in the case filed for raping a schoolgirl in Dinajpur.

The arrested were identified as Moksedul Islam Tuklu, 31, and Md Masud Rana, 24.

RAB 13 Deputy Director Maj Syed Imran Hossain said: "During preliminary interrogation, Masud confessed to his involvement in the rape case. We have also managed to extract some information vital to the case.”

The duo was handed over to Kotwali police and later produced before a court.
