Wrong blood transfusion puts patient’s life in danger

The condition of a patient has gravely deteriorated after medical staff at Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital injected him with the blood of a wrong group. Aban Bishwas, 30, was admitted to the hospital with serious cut injuries and bleeding from his legs on April 25. As the condition of the patient deteriorated further, the relatives shifted him to Dhaka. Several tests done on the patient at different private hospitals and diagnostic centres in Dhaka detected some discrepancies in his blood. On April 26, doctors at Square Hospital confirmed that Aban's blood group was A-positive. The patient was later admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital under the supervision of its medicine department Chairman Dr Benzir Ahmed. Kushtia hospital's blood bank staff Iqbal Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune that B-positive blood was given for Aban from the blood bank on requisition from the ward concerned.
