Green Line launches waterbus service on Dhaka-Bhola river route

Waterbus service on the Meghna river from Dhaka to Bhola started Tuesday morning.

The Volvo waterbus service of Green Line Paribahan left Sadarghat, Dhaka at 7am arriving at 12 noon at Bhola’s Elisha Ghat.

The vessel with a passenger capacity of 600 people will for now do two trips a day. 

Reaching Bhola at noon, the bus is scheduled to return to Dhaka at 6:30pm daily.

Authorities said initially an economy class seat on the lower deck will cost Tk700 per person and the business class seat on the upper deck will cost Tk1000 per person.

Md Alauddin, owner of Green Line Paribahan said: "Waterbus service was a long awaited demand of people in Bhola. We are really happy to finally begin our service here with permission from the BIWTA (Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority). We will do our best to maintain the service despite whatever challenges may come."

On Monday a Karnaphuli waterbus service began on the Sadarghat-Patenga river route, assisted by the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) . There, two small vessels with a 25 passenger capacity will make 10 trips a day.
