Five thousand people were fed in a large scale food offering arranged by Mostofapur Sri Sri Radha Govinda Youth Committee on the 15th day of the 16-day-long Ram Kirtan (devotional songs sung by the Hindu community) held at Sri Sri Radha Govinda Temple in Mostofapur of Madaripur sadar upazila on Monday.
The Ram Kirtan starts from November 10 every year and a thousand people are fed everyday during this 16-day event.
The 135 members of the youth committee have been making a unique arrangement of prasad (food offered to appease the gods) on the 15th day of the kirtan for the last 11 years. A platter of rice and six pieces of six types of fried vegetables were served to 5000 people. The vegetables include: eggplant, bitter gourd, pumpkin, potato, pointed gourd, and dry pepper. Chutney, lentils, and sweets were also served with the food
Hindus from several districts, including Shariatpur, Gopalganj, Faridpur, Barisal, Gournadi, and a number of expatriates also join the festivities.

The youth committee said the expense for this arrangement crossed Tk5 lakh.
Pritom Ghosh from Faridpur said: “Ram Kirtan is held in our area too, but I came here this year because of the exceptional and large-scale arrangement.”
Mostofapur Sri Sri Radha Govinda Youth Committee President Goutam Saha said they fed more than 5,000 people on the occasion and will increase the scope of the arrangements in the future if necessary.
Mostofapur Sri Sri Radha Govinda Temple Committee President Ramesh Chandra Ghosh said: “We have informed the authorities about the arrangements beforehand and we have also formed a committee of volunteers to prevent any untoward incident.”
Additional Police Super of Madaripur sadar Md Badrul Alalm Molla said police is constantly helping to ensure the security of the 16 day kirtan ceremony arranged by Mostofapur Temple Committee.
