Police recovered a number of locally made firearms after busting an arms manufacturing factory in a remote hilly area of Raozan upazila in Chittagong.
Police arrested a wanted criminal from the spot, identified as Alamgir alias Alamgir Dakat, 41, accused in 17 cases filed with different police stations in Chittagong, including murder and robbery charges, confirmed a press release issued by the district police.
According to the release, on a tipoff about an illegal arms deal, police conducted a drive in the Ghora Shamsu Tilla area, close to Purba Raozan Rubber Bagan, early Wednesday.
Upon arrival of law enforcement, the arms dealers opened fire, compelling the police to return fire in retaliation.
At one stage of the gunfight, when the criminals attempted to flee the spot, police managed to apprehend one of them.
Based on the information provided by the arrested, police conducted another drive in a remote hilly area in Raozan and discovered the arms manufacturing factory.
Upon inspection, 10 locally made shotguns, a gas gun, six locally made pipe guns, seven cartridges, a magazine, parts of a single-barrel gun, and 27 wooden rifle butts were recovered from the spot.
