Man held with 49 gold bars in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have detained a man with 49 gold bars weighing 3.82kg in Benapole land port situated in Sharsha upazila of Jessore. 

Abdul Momin, 60, an alleged gold smuggler, was detained from Beltola intersection in Sadipur village under Benapole port police station on Thursday morning, second-in-command of Jessore 49 BGB battalion Major Nazrul Islam confirmed.

According to Nazrul, acting on a tip-off, a team of Benapole ICP camp BGB members conducted a drive in Sadipur village and detained Momin.

Later upon searching Momin, BGB found 49 gold bars, weighing 3.82kg, hidden underneath his clothes. 

Momin was sent to Benapole port police station after primary interrogation, Nazrul added.
