Female member of a human trafficking gang arrested in Narayanganj

Police arrested a female member of a trafficking gang dealing in women, from Jalkuri Uttarpara of Siddhirganj upazila in Narayanganj on Tuesday morning.

Law enforcement also rescued three women from the area between 18 and 19 years of age, who fell prey to the trafficking gang of arrested Zeba Akter, 45, said Siddhirganj police station OC Kamrul Faruk.

“Upon initial interrogation, the suspect said her team works for travel agency Nirupam International. They have a syndicate that lures poor women from across the country with promises of jobs and traffics them abroad,” added OC Kamrul.

The older sister of one of the rescued victims, filed a case accusing 7 people in this regard on Tuesday afternoon. The case named three people as suspects, including primary suspect Zeba. The other named suspects are: Manager of Nirupam International, Murad, 54, and his accomplice Shahadat, 53.

According to the case statement, the victim left her home which falls under the jurisdiction of Tongibari police station in Munshiganj district, on August 18. On Monday she phoned her family, and informed them of her situation. In turn, Siddhirganj police then rushed to the area and rescued them.

Police sought remand for Zeba in court and are trying to arrest the other suspects.
