750kg venison seized in Barguna; one held

Coast Guard members arrested a man along with 750kgs of venison from the Baleshwar river in the Patharghata upazila in Barguna early Sunday.

The arrestee was identified as Abdus Sobhan, 55, son of Hachon Ali of the Chardoani village under the upazila.

Biswajit Barua, station commander of the Patharghata Coast Guard said: “A team of coast guard stopped a wooden trawler at the estuary of the river around 2am.

“After searching the trawler, the team seized 20 maunds of venison and a head of a deer. Sobhan was detained for poaching deer, the official added.

“We handed over the venison and the detainee to Patharghata police,” said the station commander.
