Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction achieved another milestone after the installation of reactor support truss at Unit 1 of the project.
Russian contractor Rosatom said it was installed on Saturday.
A statement issued on Tuesday said the role of the support truss is to fix the reactor vessel in place and to bear its weight.
It said the reactor support truss was installed as per the design, prepared by Atomstroyexport (ASE) of engineering division Russia’s state corporation-Rosatom.
The Rooppur is the general designer and general contractor of the project, the statement added.
“It is a very complicated job which needs maximum possible accuracy. Installation was completed ahead of schedule, thanks to well-coordinated efforts of our employees and the people of the construction site,” Sergey Lastochkin, ASE vice-president and director for Rooppur NPP Construction Project, said.
“Construction works of Units 1 and 2 are progressing according to schedule”, he said.
Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is being constructed according to Russian design.
The project will have two units with generation 3+ VVER 1200 reactors.
The first unit of 1,200MW capacity is expected to be in operation by 2023 and the second with the same capacity in 2024.
The reactor for Unit 1 is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh in 2020.
