5 utility poles topple due to faulty drainage renovation work in Khulna

At least five utility poles at KDA Avenue of Khulna city got uprooted after unplanned drainage renovation work on the street affecting the power lines.

The incident instantly snapped electricity supply to 5000 home on Monday.

A bypass line was later used to resume delivery of electricity supply in the area.

WZPDCL Sales and Distribution Deviation-4 Executive Engineer Md Jahangir Hossain said: “We had previously warned the contractor to be careful working near the utility poles. But, the contractor paid no heed and used excavators to dig deep, causing the utility lines to fall.”

Meanwhile, Khulna City Corporation mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said: “Authorities concerned have been instructed to urgently repair the utility poles. At the same time, the contractor has also been asked to remain alert while excavating the drainage system to end waterlogging on KDA Avenue.”
