2 more die of dengue in Khulna, Barisal

Two more people have died of dengue in Khulna and Barisal.

In Khulna, a man has died of dengue while undergoing treatment in Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).

The deceased is Abdur Rauf, 35, hailing from Bagharpara upazila of Jessore district.

Dr Partha Pratim, a dengue specialist at KMCH, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

“Rauf died at the hospital around 4am on Tuesday, a few hours after being admitted to the hospital with dengue,” Dr Shaila Nath Biswas of KMCH said.

Rauf was admitted to the hospital around 7pm on Monday. 

According to Khulna Civil Surgeon’s Office, fifteen people have died of dengue so far in the district.

In Barisal, a 60-year-old died due to dengue while undergoing treatment at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased is Syeda Baru Bibi, hailed from Sadar upazila of Patuakhali District.

Confirming the matter, SBMCH Director Dr Bakir Hossain said: "Syeda was admitted to SBMCH hospital with dengue fever on Monday night."

Syeda's condition deteriorated on the following day and she passed away around 1:30pm, he said. 

Dengue situation in Bangladesh

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) cites the official death toll to be 75, which was previously cited as 68.

However, the unofficial countrywide death toll currently stands at 164.

A total of 469 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours.

Till 8am on Tuesday, 131 new patients were admitted in Dhaka and 338 in districts outside Dhaka.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Tuesday, said the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 1,928.

A total of 75 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 24, according to their own collected data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 163, so far.

As many as 778 patients were currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,150 people were undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.

Since January 1 till September 24, as many as 85,757 people have been affected by dengue.

Among those admitted, a total of 83,605 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
