In Tangail, a man was beaten to death reportedly on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone.
The incident took place in Gultia village in Tangail’s Modhupur upazila on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Osman Gani, 28, son of Chamer Ali from Ram Krishnapur village of Modhupur Upazila.
Tarik Kamal, OC of Modhupur police station confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Apparently a woman went out to respond to the call of nature in the early hours of Monday in Gultia village. In the meantime, seeing the door open, a man entered her home and tried to steal and run away with the woman’s mobile phone.
The woman screamed out loud seeing the theft. Locals caught the man and beat him to death. Informed, the police came and took him to the Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared him dead, according to OC Tarik Kamal.
The dead body was sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case will be filed in this regard, said the OC.
In Jessore, a farmer was killed and another injured by a mob on suspicion of stealing fish.
The incident took place in Kochua Moddopara village in Jessore Sadar upazila on Monday.
The deceased, Shah Alom, 41, and injured Jillur Rahman, 40, are from the same village.
Golam Mortuza, in charge of Narendrapur police outpost in Jessore Sadar confirmed the matter.
Reportedly, Shah Alom and Jillur Rahman went out to water their paddy field at night. A group of locals led by Arman of Hamidpur village surrounded and beat them up, saying they were stealing fish. Shah Alom later died on his way to hospital, according to the injured Jillur Rahman.
Moniruzzaman, OC of Jessore kotowali police station said: ''I have been informed the incident took place over fish stealing. Police are investigating the matter. No case has been filed in this regard yet.
