A schoolgirl has allegedly been molested sexually by a teacher in Chandpur.
The incident took place at Padua Government Primary School in Matlab South upazila on Sunday.
Police and locals said the assistant teacher of the school, Masud Rana, harassed the third grader sexually at the classroom.
As the news spread around, guardians and local people got furious and assaulted the teacher.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought Masud to Matlab South police station, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Swapan Kumar Aich.
The victim's grandmother filed a case against Masud Rana on Sunday under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, the OC said.
Meanwhile, the teacher was released under the custody of two teachers’ representatives on Monday.
"As he is a government employee, we did so and he must appear before court on time," the police official said.
Chandpur District Primary Education Officer Sahab Uddin said: "Police will submit a report about the matter. After receiving the report, we will take departmental action against the teacher."
