Drug addict son, who burnt his mother alive in Bogra’s Dhunat upazila, confessed to the crime on Tuesday evening.
The accused, Sohanur Rahman Khokon, 32, gave a confessional statement before the court of Bogra Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The magistrate sent the accused to the district jail following the confessional statement.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Gaziur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police of the Dhunat-Sherpur circle added that Police recovered 10 yaba pills, two locally made arms and country and foreign made wine from the accused Sumon’s possession. Separate cases were filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act.
On September 1, the accused Sohanur demanded Tk5000 from his father Abdus Salam Mondol to buy drugs. When his father refused to give the money, he locked up his mother inside the room, poured petrol over her and set her on fire. After the incident, Sumon tried to escape but locals caught and beat him up and later handed him over to the police, according to the confessional statement.
On September 2, diseased Khuki Khatun’s elder son Jakir Hossain filed a murder case against Sumon with he Dhunat police station.
