Road accidents kill 8 in 4 districts

At least eight people have been killed and another injured in separate road accidents in four districts.

In Sirajganj, a motorcyclist and his pillion were killed as a bus hit their motorbike at Raiganj upazila on Monday evening.

The deceased are Mithun Das, 27, son of Dinbandhu Das, and Saidur Rahman, 35, residents of Sherpur upazila in Bogra.

Hatikumrul highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akter Hossain said: "The incident took place on Bogra-Nagarbari Highway in Khamarbari area.

"Motorcyclist Mithun died on the spot while Saidur succumbed to his injuries at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital," he said.

Police seized both the vehicles while the bus driver and helper fled the scene, the OC added.

In Lakshmipur, two motorcyclists were killed when their vehicle fell into a roadside ditch at Charpata in Raipur upazila.

One of the deceased is identified as Zahid, 18, son of Khokon Mia, a resident of the upazila. 

The accident occurred around 6:30pm on Monday, said Tota Mia, the OC of Raipur police station.

Zahid died on the spot while his fellow, who could not be identified immediately, was taken to a Chandpur hospital and died there, he added.

In Dinajpur, two more motorcyclists were killed as a microbus hit their motorbike at Bekipul Bazar in Chirirbandar upazila on Monday evening. 

The deceased are Shahriar Sabbir, 17, son of Abdur Rouf; and Ashadul Islam, 16, son of Waed Master of Alokdihi union in the upazila, reports UNB.

Haresul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar police station, said: "The accident took place around 6pm, leaving Shahriar dead on the spot and Ashadul severely injured.

Ashadul was admitted to Syedpur Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment, the OC added.

In Narayanganj, two people, including a police constable, were killed and another was injured in a road accident at Rupganj upazila early Monday.

The incident occurred when a truck collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Gazipur-Madanpur bypass road in Kaladi area.

The deceased are Saymon Islam Durjay, constable of highway police, and Shipan Chandra Das, a gold trader, son of Nishi Kanta Das from Dhaka's Merul Badda area.

Confirming the matter, Kanchpur highway police station OC Kayum Sardar said: "The head-on collision between the Chittagong-bound salt-laden truck and Bhulta-bound auto-rickshaw left the duo dead on the spot.

"Later, locals rescued the injured and sent him to a local hospital," he said adding that they have detained truck driver and his assistant. 

A case has also been filed with Rupganj police station in this regard, the OC added.
