Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan has said rail route connecting Dhaka and eight northern districts through Gaibandha will be restored before Eid-ul-Azha.
“The repair work is in effect,” the railways minister said.
He made the statement on Friday while visiting the damaged rail tracks at Badiakhali in Gaibandha district. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Matin and railways officials.
Rail communication between Dhaka and the northern part through Gaibandha remained suspended since June 17 due to flood triggered by torrential rain.
“It will be possible to restore the rail link if there is no more flooding,” the minister said.
The minister also visited Rangpur to inspect two new railway stations set to begin operations from September 10.
