LGED initiates cleanliness campaign over dengue awareness

Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) started a campaign at its Tangail office on Thursday raising awareness about mosquito eradication and prevention of dengue.

The campaign kicked off with LGED officials, led by the Tangail unit’s Executive Engineer Golam Azam, cleaning their office premises at 7:30am.

Golam Azam said: "People are less likely to get infected by dengue if they keep their homes and workplaces clean. Everyone must be aware of the disease.”

Senior Assistant Engineer Fazlur Rahman, Assistant Engineer Saiful Faisal and Azim Uddin, among others, were also among the sweepers.

What is the dengue situation in Bangladesh?

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) says 14 people have died of dengue in 2019 as of July 31.

Official estimates put dengue patients across the country during the seven months of 2019 at 17,183.

As of Wednesday, DGHS 4,903 dengue patients across Bangladesh and 3,676 in Dhaka alone have received dengue treatment at a medical facility.
