Cylinder blast leaves 3 of a family critically burnt

Three members of a family sustained critical burn injuries in a fire that started following a cooking gas cylinder explosion in Chittagong city on Sunday.

The incident took place in the morning, at the kitchen in the family’s home situated in Kolshi Dighir Par area under Bandar police station, according to police.

They were rushed to the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) soon after, said the hospital police outpost’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Alauddin Talukder.

He said the injured were identified as Rajia Akter, 45, her son Md Yasin, 23, and her daughter Tania, 19.

Dr Narayan Dhar, assistant registrar of the unit, said Rajia sustained 55% burn injuries, Tasin 35%, and Tania 15%.

"All of their respiratory organs have been badly damaged,” he said.

All three were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the afternoon for better treatment, he added.
