Arms, ammunitions seized in Chapainawabganj

Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled arms and ammunitions from a boat in Chapainawabganj.

The illegal items were recovered from Bakher Ali border area during a raid in the early hours of Friday.

Six foreign pistols, one revolver, three shooter guns, 10 magazines, 36 rounds of bullets- which were being smuggled in to Bangladesh from India- have been seized, said  Lt Col Sajjad Sarwar, commanding officer of BGB 53 Battalion.

He said: "Acting on a tip-off, members of BGB were waiting to intercept the boat carrying the smuggled firearms from India.

"Seeing the BGB members’, the boatman, jumped into river swimming towards India. BGB fired two rounds of bullets to stop the boatman but failed to catch him. After searching the abandoned boat, the cache of illegal arms and ammunitions were found."

BGB handed the arms and ammunitions to Chapainawabganj sadar police station. A case has also been lodged with the station.
