An alleged criminal has been killed in a reported gunfight with the police in Gazipur's Kaliakair.
Confirming the matter, Kaliakair police station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain Mazumdar said: “Lyon Siddique, a suspect in numerous murder and drug cases, arrested from Gazipur City Corporation's Konabari area Monday night.
“Later, a team of the Kaliakair police carried out an operation with him at various locations based on information given by him. At one location, Lyon associates opened fired at police.”
Lyon was found shot in the gunfight that ensued as police returned fire in self-defence, he added.
The police official said: “Lyon was then taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.”
Five members of the police were also wounded in the gunfight, who also received treatment at the health complex, he furthered.
According, to the police official, there are seventeen cases against Lyon including murder, terrorism, drugs, extortion and other crimes.
Legal steps will be taken in this matter, he added.
