Hundreds of students protest against 20 schoolgirls rape in N’ganj

Hundreds of students formed a human chain on Sunday in Kandapara of Siddhirganj district,  to protest the infamous Narayanganj 20 schoolgirls’ “rape.”

The protest was arranged by students from over 14 schools in Narayanganj. It was joined by Narayanganj Additional Police Super Mehedi Imran Siddiqi, Siddhirganj police station OC Shahin Shah, local representatives, politicians, and other local people of the community.

Students at the protest said: “If we cannot feel safe in school, if we get abused by our own teachers, then what is the meaning of education? We want justice.”

Locals said: “We don’t want this kind of misconduct at any other school. The two accused  should get the highest punishment so that nobody tries to repeat these crimes.”

Narayanganj Additional Police Super, Mehedi Imran Siddiqi said: “We have arrested the two perpetrators and are investigating them on a six-day-remand. But we are asking the guardians to file more cases against the accused to ensure justice for their children.”

An association named Birodhi Chatra Oikko also formed a human chain to protest the incident.

On Friday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Ariful Islam, 30, assistant teacher of Oxford High School in Siddhirganj, and Rafiqul Islam Zulfiqar, 55, principal of the school, acting on a case filed by one of the victim’s father.

Ariful, accused of raping over 20 schoolgirls, is on a six day remand while Rafiqul is accused of helping him, and is on a one day remand.

Ariful has confessed to his crimes.
