Suspected pirate killed in Noakhali 'gunfight'

A suspected pirate has been killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Noakhali.

The deceased is Fakir Batyanya, 42, chief of pirate group Fakir Bahini.

RAB 11 Sub-Inspector (SI) Shagor said: "Fakir and his associates opened fire at RAB members when the elite force surrounded his house around 8am on Monday morning.”
In retaliation, RAB members fired back that left Fakir injured. He was declared dead when taken to a local hospital.

Two RAB members --Constable Mentolin Mondol and Corporal Md Anis-- were injured in the incident.

RAB also recovered a foreign made pistol and bullets from the spot.

Fakir was accused in several cases against him, including murder, he added.
