Every year on May 31, Bangladesh along, with the world, observes World No Tobacco Day to create awareness on the dangers of tobacco use and reduce its consumption around the globe.
Addressing the role of the World Health Organization (WHO), the adverse and life-threatening effects of tobacco consumption, and ways a person can stop its use, Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) at Dhaka Cantonment organized a seminar on June 11 to observe World No Tobacco Day 2019.
AFMC also organized a colourful rally marking the day.
AFMC Director Training and Deputy Commandant Brigadier General Md Saidur Rahman gave the opening speech, in the presence of Commandant Major General Md Mustafizur Rahman. Bangladesh Lung Foundation President Professor Md Ali Hossain was the chief guest at the event.
The seminar concluded with a quiz contest for school students, sponsored by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, and the winners were awarded with crests and special gifts from AFMC.
