Two persons were arrested on Sunday, over a case filed for attempting to burn a schoolgirl to death in Rajbari Sadar upazila.
Law enforcement officials arrested the main accused, Shilpi Begum, 45, and her nephew Shetu, 24, from Khan-khanapur area of Sadar upazila.
According to sources, on Thursday some burqa-clad assailants abducted the tenth grader from her home, and took her to a nearby jute field.
They prepared a torch to set the girl on fire after tying up her mouth, hands, and legs. The family members of the girl heard muffled screams from the field, and rescued her.
Later, on Saturday the girl's father lodged a case against Shilpi Begum, and three other unidentified persons with Rajbari Sadar police station.
In a press briefing, Rajbari Superintendent of Police Asma Siddika Mili said: "The accused are under interrogation. Necessary actions will be taken after further investigation."
