Headmaster reportedly molests eighth grader in Pabna

A school headmaster has been accused of sexually assaulting a student in Ishwardi upazila, Pabna.

The incident took place at Alhajj Textiles Mills High School on Saturday.

The girl filed a complaint with the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) on Monday since no action was taken by the school management committee.

According to the girl’s mother, the accused, Mozammel Haque, called her to clean his office room and molested her.

Following the reported assault, the girl ran home and complained to her mother of the incident.

Two other students of the school said the headmaster has molested several other students. They said no students want to be in his class.

Seeking anonymity, an assistant teacher of the school, said: “We have had numerous complaints from students that the headmaster assaulted many students at various times. In the recent incident, the family came to us to complain and we suggested they go to the UNO’s [upazila nirbahi officer’s] office to file a formal complaint.”

Upazila Education Officer, Selim Akhter, said: “We had a meeting with all the concerned parties. We are preparing to file a case against the headmaster.”

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, the accused, Mozammel Haque, denied all allegations and said: “I am innocent. My enemies are spreading rumors to destroy my goodwill and news media like you are helping them.”
