Tungipara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Md Nakib Hasan Tarafder has started the government’s rice collection project by buying paddy directly from farmers in Gopalganj.
The UNO inaugurated the project by buying three metric tonnes of paddy from farmer Sheikh Gausul Alam in Tungipara village, on Tuesday afternoon.
Farmer Sheikh Gausul Alam said: "I received fair prices as the government bought paddy directly from me.
"All farmers will benefited if the government continues to do this ."
Food Regulator, Sahabuddin Akhand, and Officer in Charge (OC) of Food Warehouse, Momraz Hossain Kuddus, of Tungipara upazila, were also present at the inauguration.
The Food Regulation Office of Gopalganj district said that this year, the target is set to procure 281 metric tonnes of paddy from Tungipara, at a rate of Tk26 per kilogram.
The rice collection project will continue till August 31.
UNO Nakib Hasan said: "We will make sure no irregularities are done during the rice collection procedure and the project will be completed in due time."
