Local volunteer organizations submitted a memorandum to the prime minister to halt the recent land grabbing process by the government of a Padma riverine island in Rajshahi.
Under the banner of Sahdhinata Charcha Kendro, Rajshahibashi and Tarunner Shakti , social workers submitted a memorandum on Monday afternoon to press home their seven-point demand regarding the land grabbing process of the Padma riverine island by the government.
The memorandum was submitted to the Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Amin in the city.
The memorandum states that recently the Bangladesh department of prison is going to build a training facility on the 100 acres of land, which rose at the Padma river in Srirampur area.
The prison department already sent a proposal to the land ministry for the 100 acres of the riverine island.
Volunteer organizations fear if the project comes into effect then the direction of the river may change, floods may occur and other harmful environmental changes will come to light.
The demands of the memorandum includes: selecting another place for the training facility, prevent infrastructures at the riverine islands of Padma, keeping the river safe from grabbers, forestation on the river bank, banning vehicles on the river dam etc.
Earlier on May 19 the same organizations demonstrated by a human chain to make aware their demands.
