A ruling Awami League leader who is also a union parishad member has been hacked to death following an infighting ahead of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila election. The deceased, Omar Faruk, was also the joint secretary of local union unit Awami League. “A gang of five or six unidentified miscreants hacked Faruk mercilessly while he was returning home from Patwarir Haat around 10pm on Friday,” said Emran Hossain Nannu, chairman of north Hamchhadi Union Parishad. “Locals rushed him to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital where he died around 2am Saturday,” he added.
