Autopsy performed on Maldivian model Raudha Athif

An autopsy has been performed on the body of Maldivian model and medical student Raudha Athif, who was found dead at a dormitory of Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi of Bangladesh on Wednesday. The autopsy was performed at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Friday, said Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Spokesman and Senior Assistant Commissioner Iftekhar Alam. RMP Deputy Commissioner Tanveer Haider Chowdhury said: “The autopsy started around 2pm after Raudha’s father Mohammad Athif and officials of the Maldives embassy in Dhaka had reached the hospital around 10am and consented to it following a meeting with the authorities concerned.

“The autopsy was delayed at the request of the embassy and her family.” Enamul Haque, a physician in the hospital’s forensic medicine department, said: “There were no injury marks on the body but strangulation marks around her neck.” Enamul, however, added that they had collected viscera samples to determine whether poison was injected into her body.

“We cannot to come to any conclusion before we get the viscera report.” The RMP, however, suspected the cause of death to be suicide brought on by depression.

RMP Spokesman Iftekhar said: “Raudha’s father Athif, a physician by profession, has been living in India and mother in the Maldives.” Asked whether the couple separated, he said: We are not certain, but we heard that they got separated.”

The body has now been kept at the hospital’s morgue. Her family and the authorities concerned are deciding on how it will be sent home. With her aqua blue eyes, the 21-year-old model became an internet sensation in her country in 2014. She also appeared on the cover of India magazine Vogue. Her first major breakthrough was a stunning photo, which was praised by former president of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed.
