Woman killed by drug addict, grocer stabbed by teens in Chittagong

Two separate incident have seen a sexagenarian woman and a grocer killed in Chittagong.

The sexagenarian woman was hacked to death by a drug addict youth. The grocer was stabbed to death on Friday night.

The deceased are Sandhaya Rani, 60, and Mostaque Ahmed, 40.

The two separate incidents took place at Kattali area and Muradpur area in the port city, under Akbarshah and Panchlaish police stations respectively.

Drug addict youth runs riot

Satayajit Roy, a drug-addicted youth, owns a medicine shop in Kattali area in the city.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the drug addict went on a rampage after returning home from his pharmacy. He began chasing people with a machete and hacked a woman.

The doctor declared the woman dead after she was brought to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses said Satyajit began hacking indiscriminately at whoever crossed his path, and four people sustained critical injuries by his hacking spree.

Jasim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Kattali police station, confirmed that a woman had died and four others received injuries when the drug-addled youth went on hacking spree.

"At one stage, Satyajit plunged into a pond after the locals chased him. Later, the police detained him with the help of the locals," said the OC.

Teenage miscreants attack

Mostaque Ahmed, 40, a grocer, was stabbed to death at Muradpur area.

According to the police, Mostaque and his son Md Nayeem were locked in an argument with some teenage boys on Friday noon.

The teenage boys returned to take revenge at night. They stabbed him to death.

Bijoy Bosak, CMP Deputy Commissioner (North) said they were investigating the murder.
