A human chain was organized by Bangladesh Nurses Association in Kishoreganj on Thursday to protest against nurse Tania’s rape.
The protest was held on Thursday in front of Kishoreganj Zilla Hospital.
Kishoreganj City Corporation Mayor Md Parvez Mia, Deputy Civil Surgeon Md Mujibar Rahman, Bangladesh Medical Association General Secretary Abdul Wahab Badal and others gave speeches, demanding punishment of the rapists.
In addition, another human chain was formed by Kishoreganj Mahila Parishad in Kalibari area of Kishoreganj Sadar on Thursday.
Kishoreganj Mahila Parishad President Advocate Maya Bhowmik, women's leader Sultana Razia and others demanded immediate punishment of those arrested over the rape.
Kishoreganj General Hospital Administrator Dr Md Ramjan Mahmud said the initial autopsy of the deceased found evidence of rape.
Police have taken five people into remand for interrogation.
The rape incident occurred on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab Highway near Gozaria Bilpara area around 10pm on Monday, following which police arrested the bus driver and his assistant in the early hours of Tuesday.
Tania was a nurse at Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka.
According to the victim’s family, on Monday evening, Tania boarded the Kishoreganj-bound Sharnalata Paribahan bus so that she could spend the first day of Ramadan with her family.
After all other passengers got off at previous stops, some men gang-raped her, and pushed her off the running bus.
Locals rescued her in a critical condition and took her to Katiadi Hospital, where the on-duty physician declared her dead.
