8 killed in road accidents in 4 districts

At least eight people were killed in separate road accidents in Bagerhat, Nilphamari, Narayanganj and Jamalpur on Friday. 

In Bagerhat, two people died in a head-on collision between a Diganta Paribahan bus and a microbus on the Khulna-Mawa highway, in front of Nawapara Shahid Smriti College, in Fakirhat upazila, around 8am. 

The deceased were all passengers of the microbus and their identities are yet to be determined.

Katakhali police OC Rabiul Islam said: "The Khulna-bound bus from Dhaka hit a oncoming microbus. The microbus fell into a nearby ditch, killing one person on the spot and injuring two others."

Although police impounded the bus, the driver fled. 

In Nilphamari, three people were killed after a bus hit an easy bike, at Wapdar intersection in Saidpur city early Friday.

The deceased were the easy bike driver, Mintu Hossain, and the passengers, Aftab Hossain, and Abdur Rahim. 

Saidpur police OC Ataur Rahman said: " The easy bike driver died on the spot, while two passengers died on their way to the hospital and their bodies were taken for autopsy.” 

Enraged locals blocked the Nilphamari-Syedpur road for two hours, causing a stand still traffic in the region.

Meanwhile, Mizanur Rahman, a 30-year-old injured in a motorcycle crash in Dimla upazila on Tuesday, succumbed to his injuries on Friday at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

In Jamalpur, a man was killed and another injured after their motorcycle collided head-on with an oncoming truck in Bhatkhayoa area in Dewanganj upazila late Thursday night.

Samiul Hoq, 30, was riding in the passenger seat and died on the spot while the motorcyclist Jahangir, 25 was severely injured. 

Dewanganj police station OC Mainul Islam said: “The body of the deceased was recovered and the inured was taken to the upazila health complex.” 

In Narayanganj, two men were killed and one injured when a rickshaw carrying them was hit by truck in Shiddhirganj area early on Friday.

The deceased were rickshaw driver Akash, 18, and passenger Nur Hossai, 50.   

Police seized the truck but its driver had fled.
