Father's body recovered after 3 months, son arrested in Kushtia

A man has been accused of killing his father—and burying the body underneath the kitchen floorboards of his family's residence—in Kushtia.

Police recovered the body of Sanaullah alias Sanai, 45, from the kitchen of his house in Bhabanipur village in Betbaria union, under Khoksha upazila of Kushtia, on Thursday night.

Sanai's son, Rana Biswas, 25, was arrested in connection with the incident, Khoksha police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), ABM Mehedi Masud, told Dhaka Tribune.

According to the OC, around three months ago, Sanai's daughter got divorced and received Tk1.5 lakh as alimony. She handed over the money to her father. However, right after Sanai got the money, Rana started quarreling with his father to obtain it.

On Wednesday, Sanai's elder brother, Abdul Barik, lodged a complaint with the police station that Rana had been missing for the last two and a half months – right around the time when Sanai also went missing.

On Thursday night, police arrested Rana on suspicion of murdering his father. Later, Rana confessed to killing his father on February 7, the day after Sanai's wife and daughter left for Dhaka, leaving Rana alone with his father.

Based upon Rana's confessional statement, they searched their Bhabanipur residence, and found Sanai's body buried 4ft under the kitchen floorboards.

Sanai's body has been sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case has been filed over the incident.
