Upazila chairman attacks school headmaster in Jhalokati

Jhalokati Sadar upazila chairman Sultan Hossain Khan and his supporters have attacked a headmaster of a local school and left five injured on Monday.
The attack took place allegedly concerning the formation of Jhalokati’s Gobindodhobol Government Primary School’s managing committee.
Four of the victims are Latif Mia, headmaster of Gobindodhobol Government Primary School, Uttam Das, a local businessman, Uttam’s sister Rina and sister-in-law Anjona Das. The identity of the fifth injured person remains unknown.
Two of the victims were admitted to Jhalokati Sadar Hospital and three others were admitted to Barisal Sher-E Bangla Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Dr SM Hasan Mahmud, an emergency doctor at Jhalokati Sadar Hospital, said: “The bones of Latif’s hand and feet were broken, and he also showed signs of internal injuries.”
The injured headmaster said: “The chairman attacked us around 10pm on Monday. He and his supporters came to Uttam’s house and started hitting me with hockey sticks. Others were injured when they came to save me. Later, the chairman picked me and Uttam up in his car and took us to the Jhalokati police station. We were brought to the hospital after the chairman handed us over to the police.”
Accepting the attack, the chairman said: “The headmaster and his supporters threatened me and said they will kill me. A group of villagers then beat them up after their plan was leaked.”
Mahe Alam, OC of Jhalokati police station, said they will investigate the case and take legal action against the culprits.
