4 more girls raped in 4 districts in one week

Further unreported incidents of rapes are coming to light, with four more underage girls reportedly raped in four districts in the last one week.

In Tangail, a 17-year-old girl of Pakistani origin was abducted and raped in Gopalpur upazila on Tuesday.

The girl’s mother filed a case against three individuals under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Wednesday night.

Police arrested the mother of one of the accused, Al Amin.

According to the case statement, the girl, a resident of Karachi, came to Bangladesh on a holiday with her mother to visit family in Gopalpur. Some local youths used to tease her, and on Tuesday, they abducted her from her uncle’s house. They took her to an abandoned apartment and raped her.    

Gopalpur police station OC Hasan Al Mamun said: “We rescued the girl from an abandoned flat on Thursday morning and sent her to Tangail General Hospital for medical examination.”

Police are trying to arrest the remaining suspects, he added.

In Narsingdi, a 10-year-old child was raped by a neighbour in Belabo upazila on Tuesday.

Belabo police station OC Fakhruddin Bhuiya said the child’s grandmother filed a case against their 45-year-old neighbour Mojibor under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Wednesday night.

“We immediately conducted a drive to arrest the accused, but he had already fled town.

“The girl has undergone necessary medical tests at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital on Thursday.”

According to the case statement, Mojibor lured the child to a nearby deserted field and raped her. Later, he threatened her to keep silent and fled town.

In Narayanganj, a differently-abled 16-year-old girl was raped in the port area on Wednesday.

Narayanganj port police station OC Md Rafiqul Islam said the girl’s mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Thursday.

“Police tried to arrest the accused but he had already fled town. The injured girl was sent to Narayanganj Victoria Hospital for medical tests.”

According to the case statement, a local named Jamal, 32, lured the naive girl to an abandoned apartment and raped her.

In Noakhali, a fourth-grader was raped by 65-year-old man in Senbag upazila on Monday.

Senbag police Inspector Abdul Ali Patwari said: “The girl’s father filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Wednesday.”

“The accused Abdul Bashar is currently on the run but we are trying to arrest him.”

According to the case statement, while the girl was playing outside with her friends, the neighbouring Abul Bashir lured her with snacks to his residence and raped her around 5pm on Monday. 

Headteacher accused of attempted rape of student

The headteacher of Ramprasad Government Primary School has been accused of sexually harassing and attempting to rape a fifth-grader in the school in Fulbari upazila, Kurigram. 

The girl’s father filed a written complaint against the headteacher Khalekuzzaman with the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO).

According to the complaint, during a school picnic on Sunday, the headteacher lured the girl to a deserted place and attempted to rape her.

UNO Masuma Arefin and Upazila Education Officer Akhtarul Islam acknowledged the matter and said: “The accused has multiple complaints against him. A probe committee has been formed and will soon begin its investigation.”

Khalekuzzaman denied the allegation and said: “Some locals are conspiring against me by bringing up false accusation.”
