A man has been arrested on charges of attempting to kill his wife after pouring kerosene on her body, in Chittagong.
The man, identified as Arshadul Alam, son of Abdul Maleque, was arrested at the GEC Residential Area at 10:30pm on Thursday.
Critically-injured housewife, Tasnim Sayeeda Chowdhury, was admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.
Later on Thursday night, the paternal uncle of the victim lodged a case against the husband with Panchlaish police station.
According to the case documents, the couple married in 2009 and have three children. Soon after the marriage, Arshadul began to torture his wife.
On Thursday, Arshadul came back to his house, drunk, and began to beat up his wife indiscriminately. At one stage, he tried to kill his wife after pouring kerosene on her body. Later, relatives rescued Tasnim and took her to the hospital.
Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Panchlaish police station, said that the husband was arrested soon after the case was filed.
