Two idols of Hindu goddesses, Lakshmi and Saraswati, have been vandalized by unidentified miscreants at a newly-constructed temple in Kazipara of Brahmanbaria.
Acting on information, senior police officials visited the spot around 11:00am, on Monday.
Nimai Lal Roy, president of Kazipara Durgamandir Committee, said devotees found the heads and the necks of both the idols broken, after opening the temple in the morning.
When the news of the incident spread among the people of Hindu community living in the area, they were angered and informed the police, he said.
They also demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the vandalism.
“We will determine who is involved in the incident and will bring them to book soon,” said Md. Selim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station.
Shah Md. Sharif Bhandari, councilor of ward no. 8 of Brahmanbaria Municipality, said the people of all religious communities have been living together in the area for a long time.
“We condemn this incident and also demand the miscreants be punished,” he added.
