Rohingya leader dies from gunshot wounds in hospital

Abdul Matlab, a Rohingya camp chairman who was shot by miscreants at Leda Rohingya camp in Teknaf on March 24, died in a hospital under treatment on Saturday. 

He had been admitted to Pro Active Medical College and Hospital at Siddhirganj in Narayanganj.

The Rohingya leader was shot by miscreants in Block C of the camp on Sunday, and was first taken to a local clinic before being shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. The miscreants managed to flee the scene.

After Abdul Matlab’s condition deteriorated, he was sent to the hospital in Narayanganj for better treatment.

Nayapara Rohingya camp police outpost Sub-inspector Md Jahangir said legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway.

According to locals, Abdul Matlab had adopted a strict stance against narcotics after becoming camp chairman, and this may have led to his death.
