In his last, Md Parvez Mridha Sajjad, 46, asked his wife Fatema Begum to pray for him.
“Our building has caught on fire. It is burning aggressively. I do not know if I will be able to get out, pray for me,” he told her over the phone.
They spoke for the last time around 1pm on Thursday. His mobile was found switched off after that.
He was from Balugram, Kashiani, in Gopalganj.
Parvez worked at Scanwell Logistics Bangladesh (Pvt) Ltd as a senior manager. He had been working at that company for 15 years. He lived with his wife Fatema Begum and son Siyam at Mirpur Cantonment in Dhaka.
Relatives said Parvez had just finished Zuhr prayers when the fire spread wildly. He tried to climb down using electric cables, but slipped and fell from the 11th floor to the 7th, where he collided with an air conditioner’s outer unit. He fell to his death.
Parvez’s brother Khosru said: “We were made aware of his death via a phone call in the afternoon. We found his body at the Banani Clinic at Banani road 15. ”
His namaz-e-janaza was held around 10am on Friday at this home village. Parvez was buried at his family graveyard.
