DU student found dead

The body of a Dhaka University (DU) student was found hanging from a tree at his village home in Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali district on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sabuj Chandra Mitra, 22, a second year student of the History Department and a non-residential student of Jagannath Hall of the university.

Sabuj, came home recently and as usual, went to sleep after dinner on Thursday night, said Jhantu, brother-in-law of the deceased.

On Friday morning, when Sabuj’s sister went outside, she was shocked to see his body hanging from a tree there, he said.

Sabuj was a brilliant student and the first boy in his batch. His recent CGPA score was 3.67.

According to Jhantu, he was frustrated over scoring low marks in his recent exams.

“Sabuj was very talented. His aim was to become a teacher of Dhaka University but his unusual death shocked everyone,” said Belal Ahmed, one of Sabu’sj friends.

“It’s very unfortunate and disappointing. We have asked the chairman of the concerned department and hall provost to look into the matter,” said DU proctor, AKM Golam Rabbani.
